A family of six have been socially boycotted for getting a site under the Ashraya Scheme at HD Kote.

MYSURU:A family of six have been socially boycotted for getting a site under the Ashraya Scheme at HD Kote.

Somanna and his family have been boycotted by village head Nagaraju and villagers for the last 10 days.  At a press conference here on Monday, Somanna said he applied for a site under the scheme, which was denied by municipality member H C Narasimhammurthy, stating they already own a house and are not eligible under the scheme.

“The house is in the name of my mother Lakshmamma. I have three children. I got the site sanctioned under the scheme, by influencing some elected representatives,” he said.

“Angered at this,Narasimhamurthy abused my family, and demanded Rs 50,000. When I refused to pay, he connived with village heads Nagaraju, Srinivas, Raju and others, and socially boycotted us,” he said.

Somanna’s wife Latha said: “We are coolies and have not got any work for the last 10 days. We have three children and it is difficult for us to make ends meet. When others have got the site under the scheme, though they have property, why are only we being targeted?”

Lakshmamma said: “We are treated badly in the village. The local authorities have failed to take any action on this issue. We have even registered a complaint with the HD Kote Town Police but to no avail.”
