Auto driver helps rescue abducted girl in Karnataka

BENGALURU: An alert auto driver helped police foil an attempted sexual assault near Yeshwanthpura railway station early on Friday.

According to police, a man and a girl were waiting outside the Yeshwantpura railway station to board a train to Chitradurga around midnight when three men approached them. The men attacked the man and then took the 18-year-old girl to a nearby warehouse. 

Azgar Pasha, an auto driver, who was passing by found the man lying on the floor and dropped him at Yeshwanthpura police station. He later came back to the station and tried to collect information about the girl.

Azgar Pasha and the police immediately went to the warehouse and rescued the girl.  The police arrested one of the accused, Fayaz, immediately, while two others escaped. Zubair was arrested on Friday morning.

City police commissioner T Suneel Kumar said, “Fayaz and Zuber worked as part time auto drivers near Yeshwanthpura railway station. We also have information about the third accused and efforts are being made to nab him.”

Speaking to The New Indian Express, Azgar Pasha said, “It was between 12.15-12.30 am, when I saw a man lying on the road and when I spoke to him he told me that his relative was abducted by a trio. I took him to the police station and came back to Yeshwanthpura railway station and inquired with my other colleagues. I knew Fayaz as he was also an auto driver. I got information that he went towards the warehouse.”

Pasha said that the girl was bleeding when he found her.  “Generally, I do not work on night shifts. Yesterday, I could not sleep so thought of going to work and this incident took place," he said.

The police have booked the accused on charges of kidnapping, assault and molestation.

Azgar Pasha has been awarded Rs 5,000 for ensuring the arrest of the accused and the police team has been awarded Rs 25,000.
