Up to allottees to utilise land: Minister

The state cabinet on Monday approved 78 acres of land to be granted to 36 caste-based outfits.

BENGALURU: The state cabinet on Monday approved 78 acres of land to be granted to 36 caste-based outfits. The lands have been granted to build schools, colleges, student hostels, hospitals and for other social service activities. Apart from this, the state government would build a hospital, fire station and police station in the area.

The grant of lands, most of them for setting up schools and colleges next to each other, has raised questions about practicality of ensuring the land-use pattern. When asked whether the entire area would emerge as an education hub, the minister merely said it would be up to the allottees to utilise the land for the purpose it has been granted.

Siddaramaiah government has intensified its efforts to consolidate its base among various communities and had recently made it compulsory to put up social reformer Basavanna’s portrait in all government offices, a move aimed at appeasing the Veerashaiva community. Similarly, he announced the decision to celebrate the birth anniversary of Hema Reddy Mallamma -- to be celebrated as a government-sponsored event, apparently to please the Reddy community.

‘Seva Sindhu’ integrated online services
State government is set to strengthen its online citizen service system through ‘Seva Sindhu’ centres by integrating various online servcie centres like Bengaluru One, Karnataka One, Atal Seva Centres and Bapuji Seva Centres, which are presently offering these services. The ‘Seva Sindhu’ portals would offer 346 services related to 19 departments.
