BENGALURU: Three persons including two women were critically injured when their car plunged from a 15-foot-high flyover and crashed on to the service road near Raithara Santhe junction in Yelahanka on Kempegowda International Airport road in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The injured --Varun Jain, (31), resident of Lavelle Road, Rachita Reddy (23) and her sister Chaitra Reddy (25), both residents of Benson Town -- were admitted to a private hospital. The police, citing Varun’s parents, said he along with his two friends went to KIA in his Skoda Laura car to pick up his father, Prashanth Jain, who was arriving at 3 am from a business trip abroad.  His father meanwhile took an Ola cab to reach home.

While returning from the airport, as soon as he reached the flyover, Varun who was driving at high speeds lost control and rammed into the central median and then hit the parapet wall before the car plunged from the flyover, down 15 feet. The car crashed on to the service road and was completely damaged.
Fortunately, there was no vehicle movement at that time, otherwise the probability of casualties could have been higher.A few cab drivers who were passing by pulled out the injured trio and shifted them to a nearby private hospital.

Varun has sustained head injury and is being operated, while Chaitra and Rachitha sustained fractures on their legs, the police sources said. All three are said to be out of danger.Parents of Varun or Chaitra did not file a complaint with Yelahanka traffic police. Police received complaint from Navayuga Toll Pvt Ltd (Devanahalli toll plaza) and registered the case.  “We are yet to ascertain what led to the crash. However, some people who saw the car said that it was driven at high speed and in a negligent manner,” police said.
They said that family members did not reveal much information and they couldn’t confirm whether the three went to pick up Prashanth from the airport. Doctors are yet to confirm whether they were drunk when the accident took place, police sources said.
