BENGALURU: “It is a matter of perception. We all want harmony in our lives. But harmony depends on our perceptions and that is influenced by how we perceive others,” are the earnest words uttered by 18-year-old Saumyashree Katuri.

A delegate at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, Saumya is part of a four-member non-profit organisation called ‘Make the World Wonderful’, based in Hyderabad. They are all eighteen years old.

The idea was the brainchild of Meghana Dabbara and Saumya along with Khyathi Chodagiri and Pranitha Garimella. Saumya and Pranitha are NRIs and the four met at a workshop by iB Hubs, a start-up which provides assistance to non-profit and profit start-ups.

Their approach to harmony is two-pronged. One is the Perceptions Programme, which envisages introducing a course in schools and colleges about how we look at ourselves and the world.

Another part of the perceptions programme is their Child Adoption Programme. The four teens are looking after 50 underprivileged children aged six to 10, from their education to accommodation.  The cost of raising these children is being borne by their relatives. All four are pursuing college through distance education.
