BENGALURU: Looking for prospective investors at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas exhibition were the winners of a competition on social innovation hosted by Ministry of External Affairs and NITI Aayog.

One of the innovations displayed was ‘NanoOilsorb’. Developed by Macchindra S Bhalerao, a research scholar from  Mumbai, the chemical compound is capable of cleaning up large oil spills. “One unit of the compound can absorb ten units of oil. After absorption, the compound turns into a bio-degradable material,” he said.
Tell Mate

Gunjan Gupta, an entrepreneur from Jaipur, developed ‘Tell Mate’, a wearable vision device to help visually handicapped. The device consists of sensors that detect colour, depth etc.
Grain grading

An innovation for the farming sector is MATT, a grain grading device, created by Mohit Dathich and Tanmay Sethi. “At present, the device can grade wheat and soyabeans. A sample of 1,500 grains could be graded in less than a minute,” they said.
