ATHANI:BJP MLA from Belagavi’s Kagwad constituency Baramagonda (Raju) Kage and his aides have allegedly attacked businessman Vivek Shetty for posting a defamatory comment against the legislator on Shetty’s Facebook page.
Shetty was admitted at a private hospital in Miraj, Sangli district, Maharashtra. His family alleged that both his legs were fractured.
Shetty, a Raibag taluk native and BJP worker, had sought a party ticket to contest in a Zilla Panchayat election in Kagwad. When Kage refused, Shetty unsuccessfully contested as a Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) candidate against BJP.
He also campaigned against BJP in the APMC election and posted an adverse comment against the legislator on his Facebook account which he posted to Trupti as well.
The CCTV footage showed the attackers beating Shetty and dragging him down the staircase.
It also allegedly shows Trupti holding Shetty’s mother by the neck when she tries to free her son.
Kage’s family members said Trupti, who is going for IAS coaching, felt insulted after the FB post.
Shetty’s family alleged that Kage and they were family friends and even had business links but the relationship soured after Shetty showed interest in politics. They alleged that Kage had benefited from them politically and they didn’t expect such inhuman treatment from him.
Chikkodi DySP Suresh Chitaguppikar told Express that FIR has been filed against 13 persons, including Kage, Trupti, brother Shivagonda and his two sons Prakash and Gajanan.
