TUMAKURU: The alleged rape of a mentally unsound woman by assistant police sub-inspector Umesh S points to the high-handedness of some of the men in the force.
When he came across the woman at Antharasanahalli on the NH-75 bypass around 1 am, he managed to flag down a Bolero jeep which reportedly belongs to a granite company manager. Apparently, granite company owners are at the mercy of the police. The particular vehicle was used to escort granite-laden lorries on highways.
When the ASI told jeep driver Eshwara to drive off the vehicle, he obeyed. Police took their time to trace the driver and took him into custody after realising that central range IGP Seemanthkumar Singh was on his way to Tumakuru to take stock of the situation.
Sources said the spot at which the incident took place is a junction which separates Tumakuru town police limits from the rural.
