BENGALURU: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has put a brake on the transfers of Block Education Officers (BEOs) for which the list was announced just a day ago.Following a representation by various MLAs from Bengaluru alleging corruption in the BEOs transfers, the CM has asked the education department officials to put the list on hold.

Sources from the CMs office have confirmed this and said the Chief Minister has called the Primary Education Minister to discuss the issue on Tuesday. On Saturday late night, the education department released the list wherein 251 BEOs across the state were transferred. “In Bengaluru, out of nine, six were transferred,” said department official. But, just a day after the list was put on the department website, several MLAs from Bengaluru city alleged corruption in the transfers. Following which, the CM put the list on hold.

“There are corruption allegations against many BEOs working with Bengaluru. But we don’t understand why the CM intervened in this. Some of them are trying to stay back putting pressure on the CM through MLAs, and the CM should not yield to this,” said a representative of private school management
association.Though officials from the education department are not confirming this, sources from Primary Education Minister Tanveer Sait’s office said the minister is meeting the CM on Tuesday to discuss the matter.
