BENGALURU: Tension prevailed at the entrance of the Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara on
Thursday when T T V Dhinakaran, nephew of AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, came to meet her.

He spoke to the media and rubbished the allegations that his aunt has been provided special facilities in her cell.

Dhinakaran, along with his supporters came to the jail around afternoon and demanded
to meet Sasikala. However, he was stopped at the police check point near the jail and was told to get permission from senior officials.

When policemen refused to heed his demand, Dhinakaran's supporters shouted slogans against the staff and tried to call some senior politicians. Finally, Dinakaran left without meeting Sasikala.

Speaking to Express, the prison staff said that Dhinakaran had not taken prior appointment to meet Sasikala. Thus he was denied entry. They later left as it was past visiting hours, the officials added.

More officials transferred

Two days after N S Megharikh took charge as ADGP-Prisons, he visited the Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara on Thursday and inspected the facility. Megharikh had told the media on Tuesday that his priority would be to bring some improvements in the department.

Megharikh reportedly visited all the barracks and held a brief meeting with the jail staff. Later, he said, "I found no violation of prison norms. I will visit the facility whenever required. I will do my best to make this central jail a model prison for others."

On Thursday, the state government transferred some more Prisons Department officials. Anitha R, who was Superintendent of the Bengaluru Central Prison, was moved to Dharwad Central Jail in place of
Superintendent P S Ramesh, who was transferred to Bengaluru. Chief Superintendent K Krishnakumar, who was transferred on Monday, has been posted to Kalaburagi Central Prison in place of Somashekar, who was transferred to Bengaluru.

Anitha faced allegations of corruption and helping AIADMK leader Sasikala get special privileges.

The government has effected the transfers after former DIG (Prisons) D Roopa's report about corruption and irregularities in the Bengaluru Central Prison kicked up a storm. A few days later, she was shunted out to the Transport Department while DGP H N Sathyanarayana Rao was asked to go on leave.

Retired IAS officer Vinay Kumar, who is probing Roopa's allegations, visited the jail on Wednesday to gather information. He is yet to send a report to the government.
