Man accidentally shoots self while cleaning gun

A 37-year-old realtor sustained bullet injuries after he accidentally pulled the trigger while cleaning.

BENGALURU: A 37-year-old realtor sustained bullet injuries after he accidentally pulled the trigger while cleaning. The injured is Kote Naveenchandra Reddy. He is recovering in a private hospital on Old Airport Road. The incident happened at his residence in Doddanekkundi, near HAL on Thursday.

A senior police officer said, Reddy owns a Webley .22 licensed revolver. Around 12.15pm, he was cleaning the gun with a piece of cloth and he accidentally pulled the trigger. The muzzle was pointed towards his shoulder. The bullet passed through the left side of his chest. The family members, who heard his scream, came down and found him lying unconscious.

He was immediately shifted to a hospital. “Reddy is not in a position to speak. His statement will be recorded once he recovers,” the officer said.According to family members, Reddy used to be extremely  careful while handling the gun. He did not even attend phone calls while cleaning the weapon, they said. HAL police have registered a case and seized the licence and the gun for further investigations. Police are looking into the CCTV camera installed at his residence to verify the incident.
Dr Murali, medical superintendent, Manipal Hospital, said the patient had come with an alleged bullet injury. “There were injuries to his chest. His condition is stable now,” he said.
