BENGALURU: The bar and restaurant owners, in their petitions, have also contended that the National Highway Authority itself has communicated to the Excise Department of the state that the city roads and areas in question do not fall on the national highways after bypass roads were built.

During the hearing, Additional Advocate General A S Ponnanna submitted that the state has already informed the Centre on June 15 this year to denotify the said stretch of highways.
He said the state is awaiting nod from the Centre as it does not have the legislative competence to do so. He added that they are constantly following up the issue with the Centre.
The case was adjourned to July 27, after the central government counsel pleaded for more time.
