BENGALURU: Chairperson of Infosys Foundation Sudha Murty, accompanied by 14 of her team members, took her first Metro ride on Thursday, following the completion of the entire Phase-I. She also travelled on board a feeder bus from a Metro station for the first time.

With a beaming smile, she told Express, “The only other time I went on a Metro ride was on the first day (October 20, 2011) when the service was launched between Baiyappanahalli and Mysuru Road.”
All of them used their smart cards to travel by Metro and covered a considerable portion on both the Green and Purple Lines. “We left from our office in Jayanagar around 7.30am and headed to Yelachenahalli Metro station since we wanted to begin our ride from the starting point of the Metro line. From there, we proceeded to Nagasandra - the last point on the Green Line. We also took a feeder bus to Dasarahalli from there and then boarded a Metro to Majestic (Kempegowda Interchange). We then took a Purple Line to reach Halasuru Metro station,” she said narrating her long journey at the office of Workbench Projects, located inside the Halasuru Metro station.

Delighted with the smooth ride, Sudha Murty said, “It has been 10 years since I visited Malleswaram. Usually, it’s a two-hour drive to Malleswaram from my house in Jayanagar. Now, I hope to go to Malleswaram often, thanks to Metro.”

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited Chief Public Relations Officer U A Vasanth Rao said, “It was indeed a privilege to accompany Sudha Murty in the Metro this morning. The rush hour did not deter her from travelling and she did not want any privileges and preferred to travel like any other commuter.”
“Many commuters recognised her and were very happy to speak to her and she too was comfortable talking to them,” he added. The team later returned to Yelachenahalli Metro station and then headed to their work station in Jayanagar, he added.
