Under trial hangs self in Karnataka prison, was reportedly depressed

An undertrial prisoner, who was reportedly depressed, killed himself by hanging from a window grill of a toilet in Karnataka' Mandya prison on Friday morning.

MYSURU: An undertrial prisoner, who was reportedly depressed, killed himself by hanging from a window grill of a toilet in Karnataka' Mandya prison on Friday morning. 

The deceased has been identified as Raghavendra (33), a resident of Chinakurali in Pandavapura taluk.

Mandya SP G Radhika who visited the jail said that Raghavendra has been lodged in prison for the past three months after he was nabbed by Railway Protection Force (RPF) for snatching case a chain. 

His fellow inmates said he was depressed as neither his immediate family members nor relatives turned up to see him after he was imprisoned. The prisoner was hoping that his relatives would bail him out from the prison, she said.

Mandya West police have registered a case and are investigating.
