DHARWAD:We have seen groups of bike-riders travelling to nook and corner of the country to create awareness about various social issues. Here is an acupuncture therapist from Dharwad city, who is passionate about riding bikes. He  completed his solo ride ‘Journey for Peace in India’ on July 23.

M M Barchiwale (40) completed his 25-day ride on his Harley Davidson from Dharwad to Srinagar in Kashmir, covering 8,630 km distance. The clouds of war hovering the country made Barchiwale go on a ride, to educate people about the importance of peace.

Barchiwale said: “I took up the ride to spread awareness about the need of unity among people. Violence and enmity among people is rapidly increasing and it’s the time to put a break to such things.”
He said: “The condition in Jammu and Kashmir is different from what we see or hear on television or radio. The people of the state extended me a warm welcome and treated me like a guest.” He said the Indian army personnel in Srinagar ensured his safety while travelling to Wagha border from Jammu and an Army camp facilitated him on his way to Rohtang Pass.

His travel plan

  • He made sure to carry some dry fruits, water bottles and a small oxygen cylinder with him.

  • He would take rest at night and start journey early in the morning.

  • He claims that he was the first person to go on such a long solo journey from Dharwad. He spent around D65,000 on petrol and  accommodation.

  • He advises those who are interested in travelling to carry correct road map or take guidance from experienced people.
