BENGALURU: In a tie-up with the world-renowned National Health Services of the United Kingdom, Karnataka is all set to build a UK Health City in Hubbali-Dharwad.
Speaking at the inauguration of the second International Healthcare Tourism Congress, held here, on Friday, State Health Minister KR Ramesh Kumar said an area of 300 acres has been earmarked by the State and all formalities have been completed to set up the Health City.
A research and development (R&D) centre and medical, nursing and dental colleges will be part of the Health City. Quality of services offered will be monitored by UK's National Health Service.
The project would also support manufacturing, apart from research and development, of medical devices and equipment, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said in a statement during British Prime Minister Theresa May's visit a few months ago last year.
The health city in Hubbali-Dharwad will be one among 11 other such projects to come up across India. It will have a 1,000-bed hospital, with 20 per cent reservation for the poor and those living below thr poverty line. The UK Health City is expected to create 10,000.
