Following showers in interior parts of Karnataka during the first two weeks of March, temperatures have dropped by two to three degrees.

BENGALURU: Following showers in interior parts of Karnataka during the first two weeks of March, temperatures have dropped by two to three degrees. Though unusual for March, more rainfall has been predicted for both South and North Interior Karnataka region, during the course of the week.
On Tuesday, light showers were reported in parts of Bengaluru in the morning. Over the day, scattered showers were reported in several parts of the state, which intensified during the evening. According to the IMD forecast, isolated showers are forecast for the state for the next five days, which is expected to bring the temperatures further down.

SSM Gavaskar, Scientist at Karnataka Natural Disaster Monitoring Cell told Express that rainfall was due to upper air cyclonic circulation over North Interior Karnataka and neighbourhood regions. “State, including Bengaluru receiving rainfall in the morning, is a rare phenomenon for the month of March. Though, it good for the present situation as temperatures have come down,” he said.

Highest rainfall at Somwarpet in Kodagu
In Bengaluru Urban district, several parts of Bengaluru North region received light to moderate showers. The maximum was recorded near Shivkote village with 65 mm. Arakere (34.5 mm), Hesarghatta (11.5 mm), BTM Layout (10 mm) received good showers during the evening. In other parts, highest rainfall was recorded at Somwarpet in Kodagu (79 mm), followed by Koratagere (63) and Gubbi (57.5) in Tumakuru district and Gowribidanur in Chikkaballapura (57 mm).
