Lack of public transport forces villagers to use autos

CHITRADURGA/ RAMPURA: The people of the Molakalmuru, Challakere and bordering villages of Hiriyur are deprived of public transport which results in them depending on autorickshaws for travelling.
Even after having a depot at Challakere, no buses are being released for villagers. There is an urgent need for the district administration’s intervention to get a sufficient number of shuttle buses in the region.

As per the rules framed under the Motor Vehicles Act, it is stated, “In autorickshaws, the seating capacity is three passengers and a driver. A permit is issued in the taluk to travel within a radius of 15 km for autos. The vehicle should be run in the region and not beyond the permitted area,” said RTO P N Chandrashekharan.

“If there is any vehicle from any other state or from any other taluk, it is illegal, resulting in violation of the permit conditions,” he added.

He said the negligence of the truck driver had led to the accident, and that no tyre had burst.
