PG admissions in St John’s stayed

The High Court has stayed the admission process for Post-graduate medical courses in St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences (St. John’s Medical College).

BENGALURU: The High Court has stayed the admission process for Post-graduate medical courses in St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences (St. John’s Medical College).

A division bench of Justice Jayant Patel and Justice N K Sudhindra Rao passed an interim order in this regard on Tuesday after hearing petition filed by Dr Rachana Kishore from Shivabhag in Kadri of Mangaluru.

The bench said there will be a stay on collection of fees if it has not been collected. Further, one seat of MD Pediatrics shall be kept vacant, the bench said.

In her petition, Rachana contended that the Medical Council of India regulation provides for NEET ranking, and such criteria will be diluted if other marks are considered like practical test and interview for admission to PG courses. But, the petitioner claimed, St. John’s considers the practical test, interview and also gives weightage to Roman catholic and graduates who have served in the college while selecting candidates for admission. This is against regulations.

She said St. John’s has not considered her name in the provisional list, despite her securing higher marks in the NEET. But, the college has considered candidates who have secured less marks in NEET for admission, she contended.
