Mangaluru's endosulfan victims to go on fast due to lack of support

Thousands of endosulfan sufferers and caretakers are keen on following Babu Gowda who committed suicide in January this year.

MANGALURU: Letters requesting support to the indefinite fast-unto-death agitation being planned near Kokkada bus stand by endosulfan victims from May 24 will be sent to all MLAs across the state, K Sreedhar Gowda of Kokkada Endo Virodhi Samiti said on Friday.

“The agitation will be withdrawn only after the CM assures of implementing our demands including a compensation of `5 lakh for each victim, eight daycare centres, permanent daycare centre among others,” said Gowda.

Gowda, while justifying the need of such a protest, said Endosulfan victims and their caretakers live in immense pain every day. Unlike in Kerala where endosulfan victims are directly referred to multi speciality hospitals, here an Endosulfan victim gets enrolled in a hospital based on recommendations of primary health care centres.”
