Complaint against Karnataka CM’s son over ‘benami’ deals

A complaint has been filed with the Income Tax department seeking a probe into alleged benami transactions by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, former director of Matrix Ima

BENGALURU: A complaint has been filed with the Income Tax department seeking a probe into alleged benami transactions by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, former director of Matrix Imaging Solutions Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru.

In his complaint lodged with the Income Tax department on Monday — a copy of which is available with Express — Varthur Kanaka Das stated, “Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah and Matrix Imaging Solutions Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru made several benami transactions worth hundreds of crores under different names.” He said presently the company is being wholly owned and shares are being controlled by Dr Yathindra.

Kanaka Das said Dr Yathindra is a medical practitioner by profession and has many diagnostic centres in Bengaluru and Mumbai, naming a few located at West of Chord in Basaveshwaranagar.

In his complaint, Kanaka Das urged I-T department authorities to investigate the sources of funds for the sudden growth of the company.

“Properties worth hundreds of crores have been purchased in Mysuru, Mumbai and Dubai. Frequent trips to foreign nations by Yathindra and others for transferring of the money to off-shore accounts and from there money has been routed back to India in the form of ‘donations’ for the development of diagnostics centres in Bengaluru and Mumbai. This has to be probed under Benami Property Transaction Act, 1988,” he said.

The complaint was received by the I-T department on Monday. A senior official said he is not aware of the complaint as the department receives several complaints daily.

Allegations are false
When contacted, Rajesh Gowda, founder director of Matrix Imaging Solutions Pvt Ltd, said the  allegations made against the company are false and the company is ready to face any probe.
“Dr Yathindra (in pic) has nothing to do with the company after he resigned in April last year,” Gowda added.

Frequent foreign trips were made by Yathindra and others for transferring of the money to off-shore accounts. From there money was routed back to India in the form of ‘donations’ for the development of diagnostics centres in Bengaluru and Mumbai Varthur Kanaka Das, complainant
