With BJP high command setting a target of winning 150 seats in the 2018 Assembly election, novel plans are being drawn to net the voters.

BENGALURU: The BJP is now getting ready to use sports to reach out to the semi-urban and rural youth.
With party high command setting a target of winning 150 seats in the 2018 Assembly election, novel plans are being drawn to net the voters.

BJP Yuva Morcha is organising Kabaddi tournaments at the Assembly constituency, district and the state level as part of the centenary celebrations of the party ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya.

The month-long tournament launched on May 14 will see participation of 20 teams in each Assembly constituency. “About 50,000 youths are expected to participate. We hope that the event will help the party to enrol at least 300 members into Yuva Morcha in every constituency and impress the huge gatherings that will turn up at these Kabaddi matches with BJP ideology and policies. We will involve Pro-Kabaddi League stars to draw crowds,” state BJP Yuva Morcha General Secretary Thammesh Gowda told Express.

Muddhe, roti pe charcha by JD(S)

JD(S) too is up with its own event - ‘Muddhe and Roti Pe Charcha’ to connect with the rural masses from May 18, on the 85th birthday of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda.

The party plans to hold informal discussions over muddhe meals, the traditional diet in South Karnataka and roti meals in the northern districts. The programmes will have debates on the “injustice meted out to Karnataka in sharing of Cauvery waters and failure of BJP and Congress in resolving the Kasala-Banduri project dispute.

JD(S), which always takes pride in projecting itself as the party of farmers and rural masses, seeks to consolidate its voter base and showcase itself as the only alternative to Congress and BJP ahead of the Assembly election. The community discussion over meals will be held at the village and taluk level with 25 to 30 people. The programmes will strengthen the JD(S) bonds with the masses, party MLA Y S V Datta said.
