KALABURAGI: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that it was not binding on the State government to implement Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rules-2017, which bans the sale of cattle in animal markets for slaughter.

The Rules were brought in to force by the Union government on Friday, and the State was not bound to implement as it was a ‘State Subject'.

Siddaramaiah, who was here to participate in the inaugural function of modernised Kidwai Peripheral Cancer Center here, said that the State government would first examine the rules and would later decide on whether to implement it or not.
