Three Madrasa students drown in Phalguni river near Mangaluru, two others feared drowned

The deceased have been identified as Aslam (17), Samad (17) and Rameez, while the hunt for Ajamath (18) and Musbhashir (17) is still on.  All students are residents of Moolarapatna.

MANGALURU: Three students of a Madrasa school drowned at Phalguni river near Moolarapatna in Bantwal police station limits near Mangaluru. Two others are also feared drowned.

The deceased have been identified as Aslam (17), Samad (17) and Rameez, while the hunt for Ajamath (18) and Musbhashir (17) is still on.  All students are residents of Moolarapatna.

The local divers and fire personnel have succeeded in recovering the bodies of Aslam, Samad and Rameez so far.

According to the sources, the boys had been to the Phalguni river to enjoy the water on Monday noon. As they did not return to their homes by late evening, the family members started searching for them. They found out that the children had been to the river to swim and saw their clothes on the riverbank at Mularapatna.  As the region witnessed heavy rains coupled with thunderstorms and lightning on Monday evening, the search operation was carried out on Tuesday morning.

A case has been registered at Bantwal Rural police station in this regard.
