BENGALURU: Students of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) are furious as a post praising Pakistan surfaced on their Under Graduate confessions page on Facebook. The page is also replete with posts that are derogatory to certain communities. An unofficial Facebook page that goes by the name ‘IISc UG Confessional’, saw a post that was uploaded late on Sunday night that read ‘Pakistan Zindabad’.

Confession #2154 : “Urdu is older than Hindi. Hindi is just an invention of Hindus saying that both are derived frm Sanskrit. It’s totaly fals. Go ‘nd compare numbers in Hindi, Urdu and Persian and y’u know which true. They j’st changed the script f Urdu and calls it Hindi. Pakistan Zindabad (sic),” the post read.
The page, which has in its description that it was created as IISc UG deserves an active and responsive confessions page, reads that the page is not associated with IISc’s administration.

“None of the content/posts on this page are created or owned by the Admins of this page. The Admins will not be liable for any false, inaccurate, inappropriate or incomplete information/content presented on this page,” reads an impressum on the page. The page is also replete with posts that target the right wing ideology and the BJP.

“I feel like laughing when BJP bhakts say ‘Hamara Desh Hindu hain’ and blah blah blah. Little do they know the bhasha they speak is just the same over the border in enemy Pakistan under a different script. How Hindi is branded as an Indian language fit for being a national language when it has the taint of the language of Muslims (Arabic, Persian) whom the north indians so despise. Such is the irony and fate of north indians who killed their mother sanskrit and speaking about the greatness of Sanatana Dharma in the language of muslims, (sic)” reads another post.

The page also has posts against a few communities and languages. “We are shocked when we came across this. We have been wondering why authorities haven’t taken any action. Students believe that the admin of this page is also a UG student who does not wish to identify himself as the purpose of confession would be lost. However, it is saddening that in the name of IISc, such posts are being uploaded,” said a student.
Even in the past, the page saw an abusive post during the language debate in Karnataka. A member of an IISc students’ council said the council is unaware of such a page being in existence. “We will, however, bring it to the notice of the administration,” he said.

The Sadashivanagar police inspector told Express that the page has not come to his notice, adding, “If anybody is filing a complaint, we will file a case.” City police commissioner T Suneel Kumar  said, “I have got to know about it from you now. If there is something that is troubling peace and disturbing law and order, I will look into the issue and will certainly take action accordingly.”
