Services at private hospitals in city back to normal

After partial and total disruption of private healthcare services, labs, clinics and diagnostic centres, the city finally returned to normalcy on Friday.

BENGALURU: After partial and total disruption of private healthcare services, labs, clinics and diagnostic centres, the city finally returned to normalcy on Friday. Joseph Prasangha, Chief Operating Officer, Narayana Health, said, “Our OPDs were jampacked on Friday in the Bommasandra headquarters due to rush of patients.” Dr Govindaiah Yatheesh, medical superintendent, Apollo Hospital, said, “Generally, we have around 800 to 1,000 patients.

Fridaywas a lean day though. There were no elective surgeries done today.” Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road generally sees at least 700 patients in its OPD everyday but on Friday there was a marginal decrease in patients and the hospital had around 600 patients, said its public relations personnel. Manipal hospital that generally sees around 1,500 patients in its OPD had only around 900 patients and no elective surgeries were done. Dr Murali Mohan, Head of Clinical Services, Manipal Hospital, said, “Out OTs also remained open on Friday.”

Dr Sanjiv Lewin, medical superintendent, St John’s Hospital, said, “Lot of grateful, relieved needy patients were attended to today. Surgeries were same as before as we had only minimised closure to OPD alone.” Dr Ajith Benedict Rayan, medical superintendent, HOSMAT hospital, said, “Normally we see around 350 to 400 patients but on Friday we saw around 220 patients.

A lot of them called and enquired if we were open today. After Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (PHANA) called off the strike on Thursday a lot of patients got themselves admitted for elective surgeries for those that were postponed yesterday. ” Dr Ajai Kumar, Chairman, HCG, said, “Usually we have around 250 to 300 patients in the OPD. Elective surgeries will start from Saturday as patients will start getting admitted from Friday.”
