MYSURU: WITH 55,506 participants, Mysuru has officially entered the Guinness world record for the largest gathering at a single venue held on June 21, 2017, on the occasion of International Yoga Day. Guinnessworldrecords.com has put out the news to the world, announced Mysuru Deputy Commissioner D Randeep.

Earlier, it was reported that Mysuru lost the title to Ahmedabad, which also saw  over 55,000 participants. But, on Monday, it was clarified that Ahmedabad session witnessed only 54,522 participants, almost 1,000 less participants than Mysuru, making way for the Heritage City to bag the record.
On International Yoga Day, the yoga event was held at the spacious 136-acre Mysore Race Course. Mysuru scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar , Union Minister D V Sadananada Gowda, District Minister H C Mahadevappa and others had participated in the event.

After the event, the district administration had shared photos, drone shots and other necessary documents with the authorities concerned from Guinness world record. But, they had expressed apprehension about the number of people who ‘actually performed Yoga’ and hence the official announcement was kept on hold. On Monday, after scrutiny, they officially announced that Mysuru has set the world record.
The District Administration and the DC expressed happiness over this and thanked Mysureans for participating in the event. “I am happy with the way how Mysoreans from all faiths and walks of life responded to the event,” said Ganesh , a Yoga teacher.
