MYSURU: Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala on Wednesday expressed displeasure over the delay in appointment of vice chancellors to six universities, including the University of Mysore and the Bangalore University.

Speaking to The New Indian Express, Vajubhai Vala said the State government should complete the process and recommend names to his office. Vajubhai Vala, also the chancellor of universities, said he does not delay the files and would clear them within three days.

Asked about higher education minister Basavaraya Reddy not happy with the governor's office for returning files on appointment of vice chancellors to the Mysore and Bangalore University, Vala said the files were not in order and hence were returned to the government.

When told that the delay in appointment of regular vice chancellors has hit the recruitment process since in some universities the teachers' strength has come down to less than 50 per cent, the chancellor said acting vice chancellors can fill up the approved posts through a notification and a call can be taken on promotions, filing up of vacancies as part of administrative matters.

About the government stopping recruitment for sanctioned posts in Davangere University despite permission from the chancellor's office, Vajubhai Vala said the varsities need not wait for regular vice chancellors to fill up the posts and assured that they will write to universities in this regard.
