The Principal City Civil and Sessions Court has declined to interfere in the criminal proceedings initiated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against the accused involved in the PUC quest

BENGALURU: The Principal City Civil and Sessions Court has declined to interfere in the criminal proceedings initiated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against the accused involved in the PUC question paper leak case. A complaint was filed by the Pre-University Board in this regard.

Judge Basavaraj S Sappannavar said there are sufficient grounds to frame charges against the accused Narayan, Sathish and D Santhosh. He rejected applications seeking directions to discharge them from the case. Narayan was booked under the Karnataka Control of Organized Crimes Act, Karnataka Education Act and other IPC sections.

The material collected by the investigation officer indicated the involvement of the accused in the leaking of questions papers of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Kannada ahead of the Second PUC examination held in the month of March, 2016.

The public prosecutor stated that Narayan had copied the question papers to facilitate his daughter write the examination. He had given `13 lakh to Manjunath, a physical education teacher and an LIC agent, for getting the leaked question papers. Manjunath had deposited `10 lakh in one of his clients’ account, which was seized during mahazar by the CID officials.

The prosecution contended that Sathish introduced Manjunath to Narayan and D Santhosh helped the accused take the answer sheets to the students. Meanwhile, the application filed by Obalaraju, who was working as personal assistant to Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, seeking discharge from the case, is kept in abeyance by the Principal City Civil and Sessions Court.
