UDUPI:Raising contentious issues of cow vigilantism and moral policing, Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji of Suttur Mutt in Mysuru said multiplicity of problems faced by Hinduism requires a realistic approach with self-introspection.

Giving his benediction, he said Dharma Samsad should initiate a process of reclaiming the past glory of Hinduism that upheld ideals like ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbhakam’ (whole universe is one family).
He said corruption should be curbed with zero tolerance for it and the status of women needs to be improved ensuring their safety.

“The most dangerous threat is from some pseudo-religious groups, who in the name of Hinduism indulge in activities like cow vigilantism and moral policing that cause irreparable damage to the religion,” the seer asserted. He said, “India is a land of religions and cradle of human race. India has also given birth to a galaxy of saints and philosophers who in their unique way have enunciated in simplest forms the profound truth of Hindu philosophy. Wisdom lying hidden in scriptures find expression through many saints in many languages covering different regions”, he said.

“Today, societies across the globe are facing unprecedented crisis and hatred, with piled up nuclear weapons. Religious intolerance, environmental degradation and erosion of human values have made human existence critical. At this juncture, Dharma Samsad is discussing very important questions concerning the future of Hinduism such as untouchability, casteism, forcible conversions and construction of Ram Mandir, the seer added.

No bargaining over Ram Mandir, says VHP leader
Udupi: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) general secretary Champat Rai said Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravishankar’s efforts for an out-of-court settlement of the Ram Janmabhoomi dispute are his own and his outfit (VHP) is not ready for “any bargaining”. Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of Dharma Samsad, Rai said the saints attending the three-day congregation declared their determination to build a Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.  Asked whether VHP would support Sri Sri Ravishankar in his efforts, Rai said, “It is a matter of faith and the faith is law.” The Supreme Court will decide purely on the basis of law, he said and added the seers are “not ready for any bargaining on the matter”.
