Schools violating norms for affiliation to face action

Schools which have been operating by claiming CBSE affiliation, but in reality just have No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state government, will face a tough time from the next academic year.

BENGALURU: Schools which have been operating by claiming CBSE affiliation, but in reality just have No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state government, will face a tough time from the next academic year. The Department of Public Instructions has directed all its officials at the district level to get documents from schools affiliated to CBSE and send them to the commissioner of public instructions.
The department took up this exercise to identify erring schools and initiate proper action.

According to department officials, they also received several complaints about such schools. A senior official of the department said schools with just NOC have to function under the state board and follow the state syllabus. “If they have provisional affiliation, then they can teach CBSE syllabus. There are many complaints against schools across the state violating these affiliation norms,” the official said.

The Karnataka Education Act mandates schools, which just have NOC to start CBSE schools, must teach the state syllabus till Class 8. “Many schools are misleading both parents and government by claiming CBSE affiliation. But this time, after getting reports from our district-level officials, we will ensure those schools follow the state board till they get affiliation or provisional affiliation from CBSE,” the official said.

A management representative of a top city-based school said in most cases, schools would have applied for affiliation, but the process takes time to complete. “Such schools think that they can go ahead as they have NOC, which is wrong.”

Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka General Secretary D Shahsi Kumar said, “We brought it to the notice of the Primary and Secondary Education Minister. He assured us of initiating action.”
