KALABURAGI:Kalaburagi district received heavy rainfall on Wednesday night. Two people were killed and another sustained injuries after being struck by lightning in different parts of the district, official sources said.

The sources said that a person was killed and his wife sustained injuries after being struck by lightning while they were sleeping in a tent adjacent to police quarters in Aland town on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Halleppas. His wife Basamma sustained burn injuries and has been admitted to Aland taluk government hospital.

In another incident, a farmer Ramappa died after lightning struck him at Kachwar village of Sedam taluk on Wednesday night.People living in low-lying area faced problem as rain water flooded their houses. Rainwater also flooded KBN Hospital.

Sources said that Kalaburagi district received average rainfall of 298.62 mm in the last 12 hours. Sedam taluk received highest average rainfall of 52.48 mm followed by Chincholi taluk 52.24 mm, Kalaburagi- 47.91 mm, Jewargi-47.70 mm, Chittapur-42.97 mm, Afzalpur-29.73 mm and Aland taluk received lowest rainfall of 26.49 mm. Ivani Gram Panchayat of Chittapur taluk received highest rainfall of 124.5 mm rain in the last 12 hours.
