BENGALURU: Preservation of diversity in seeds is essential. The extinction of even one variety can have great repercussions in this inter-connected world, said the Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
He was delivering the keynote address at The Sustainable Seed Innovation Round Table facilitated by The Art of Living at its headquarters in the city on Friday. Ravi Shankar said preservation of diversity in seeds is as essential as preservation of diversity in flora and fauna. “Indigenous seeds are world heritage. The extinction of even one variety can have great repercussions in this inter-connected world,” he said.

The Art of Living, Max Planck Institute and Leeds University along with 23 farmers from seven states, policy makers, government officials and researchers came together to discuss frameworks to promote sustainable seed innovation using traditional technologies.The Round Table marked the conclusion of a research project of the participating organisations. Sanjay Khattal, Director of National Seeds Corporation, who participated in the Round Table, said the government will explore possibilities to support the promotion of indigenous seed innovation.
