BENGALURU: The campaign for construction of a Metro station opposite Cantonment Railway Station continues to gather steam, with a Bengaluru MP now writing to the CM regarding the issue.
BJP MP of Bengaluru Central P C Mohan has written a letter to Siddaramaiah contradicting BMRCL’s arguments for shifting the Metro station. In the letter, he has underlined the importance of the Cantonment station as a ‘very important inter-modal hub’ and asks for its integration with the upcoming suburban railway. He says the chosen location at Bamboo Bazaar is inaccesible and inconvenient for the public.

Mohan then questioned BMRCL’s arguments for the decision. He says the reduction in curvature will not cause any reduction in the train’s speed, as that depended on the distance between the stations. Regarding BMRCL’s claim that a tunnel has to be constructed 30m below railway stations as per a railway order, he asked whether there was any such order and asked for a copy of it. He wrote, “The London Tube, Moscow, Delhi Airport Express and other Metros have tunnels built as deep as 40m without any problem.”
The MP has also urged the CM to hold a joint meeting with BMRCL, Ministry of Urban Development, Railways and experts in New Delhi to resolve the issue and come up with a plan that would be least inconvenient to the public.
