Tourists can have a glimpse of golden throne again

It is good news for tourists visiting Mysore Palace as the golden throne assembled at Durbar hall for private Dasara will be open for public viewing for next five days.

MYSURU:It is good news for tourists visiting Mysore Palace as the golden throne assembled at Durbar hall for private Dasara will be open for public viewing for next five days.The golden throne is assembled by the Palace staff and villagers of Gejjagallai in an auspicious muhurtham in presence of the members of royal family and Deputy Commissioner D Randeep. Golden throne kept in the durbar hall is an added attraction to the Dasara festivities.

After, the demise of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar it is for the third year Yaduveer Krishnadutta Cahmaraja Wadiyar is ascending the throne during the Navarathi festivities.As the tourists from Doddalapur, Tumakuru and rest of the state approached the Palace Board to provide them an opportunity to have a glimpse of the golden throne at private durbar, Palace Board deputy director Subramanya held talks with Pramodadevi Wadiyar, wife of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, and made an arrangement that people visiting private museum get an opportunity to view the golden throne.

He said there is good response as many of them with valid tickets will be given a wrist band to enter private durbar hall to view golden throne. They have also deputed private security from palace along with cops on duty at the durbar hall. The throne will be dismantled and would be kept back in strong room after the Vijayadashmi procession.

The golden throne is kept open for public after a gap of two years as the differences arised between the previous Palace Board director Indiramma and the royal family. It may be recalled that Pramodadevi Wadiyar has strongly protested over Indiramma trying to remove cloth covered on golden throne without the permission of the royal family.

Facelift to Maharaja School, College building

Mysuru: The 100-year-old Maharaja High School and PU College building will get a new look as the state government has granted Rs 4 crore for renovation works. Famous people like former chief minister D Devaraja Urs, novelist RK Narayan and other prominent persons have studied in this institution founded by Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar in 1833. Of the Rs 4 crore, the department of pre-university education will utilize Rs 3 crore for renovation and the remaining Rs 1 crore for the construction of four new classrooms. A few months ago a section of alumni of this old college had requested the Education Department authorities to renovate the building which is in a dilapidated status.

Outrage against Gauri, Kalburgi killings gets poetic touch
Mysuru: The outrage against the recent death of journalist Gauri Lankesh became became poetic. Some of the poets who took part in Dasara Poets Meet lent a creative touch to condemn the death of Gauri, who was gunned down outside her house in Bengaluru on September 5. Krishnamurthy Chamaram, a poet from Chamarajanaga, who recited a poem ‘Akhandathe’, read one of the lines -- Gandhiinda Gauriyavarege munduvaredide nimma yuddhakanda, neevu kolluthiruvudu janarannalla, deshada akhandatheyanna.... (From Gandhi to Gaurilankesh, the war has continued, however it is not just the people who are being killed, but also the oneness of the country). Another poet Chalam Hadlahalli who recited a poem titled ‘Nanna Appa’, exhorted the government to speed up the probe into the killings of Prof M M Kalburgi and Gauri.
