CEO to conduct special drive to enhance voters’ list

The Chief Electoral Office is conducting a special drive on April 8 at all polling stations across the state where eligible voters who do not have their names enrolled.

BENGALURU: The Chief Electoral Office is conducting a special drive on April 8 at all polling stations across the state where eligible voters who do not have their names enrolled or want to apply for address change, can apply. All booth-level officers are asked to work on Sunday between 10 am and 5 pm at their respective polling stations. One can check details of nearby polling stations in the CEO website (www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in).

Chief electoral officer Sanjiv Kumar said that the special summer revision was completed in February which showed an increase in the total number of voters to 4.96 crore. However, they are taking applications from the public even now. Till date, they have received 1.74 lakh people for voter card, 1,582 for change in address and 81,412 for deletion.

“We will continue this process till April 14. Applications applied after April 14 will not be valid for this year’s assembly elections,’’ he added.EPIC cards will be distributed at the earliest on priority basis to those who have already applied and are included in the voters list. “We have received 10 lakh holograms, which will be used on the EPIC cards. We need to distribute 3.69 lakh EPIC cards. The polling officers will come home to give these cards. They w ill not be given to any middlemen,’’ he added.

The model code of conduct

Kumar said that they have removed 12,537 wall writings, 17,693 posters, 7,711 banners from public places. 6,846 wall writings, 7,949 posters and 2,543 banners have been removed from private properties. As many as 16 FIRs have been registered against individuals and organisations under various acts. They have seized `1.21 crore in cash, 2.46 kg gold, 568 sarees and 2,675 litres of illicit liquor.
