RTO goes on enforcement overdrive ahead of polls in Karnataka

Ahead of the Assembly polls, the  Transport Department has started a special checking drive which has netted it Rs 4.43 crore in fines and taxes in just two weeks.

BENGALURU: Ahead of the Assembly polls, the  Transport Department has started a special checking drive which has netted it Rs 4.43 crore in fines and taxes in just two weeks.

The drive, being conducted across the state with special focus on Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, and other cities, has resulted in 420 vehicles being seized for violations between  March 27 and April 9.

On Tuesday, six buses were seized for violations. Since the drive began on March 27, the day the code of conduct came into force, a total of 79,523 vehicles have been checked and cases have been booked against 13,617 owners across the state.
