MANGALURU: Prathyush P of Mangaluru has emerged as state topper in the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), a prestigious examination funded by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, by securing seventh rank in All India level. In all 16 candidates from Mangaluru, all studying at Centre For Advanced Learning (CFAL) have bagged ranks in KVPY.
The rank holders are: Anish Hebbar (92), Shreyas V Pai (116), Shreesha G Bhat (142), Ankush Moger (162), Sharaj K (180), Shravan Singh Mehra (226), Navaneesha (406), Suraj Samaga (477), Vishnu Bharadwaj (661), Rajath Rao (670), Unnathi Nayak (784), Samarth Bhat (823), Sourav V (1091), Suraj S (1240) and Rashmi Kasangeri (1811).
They will get annual fellowships upto Rs 1.12 lakh if they pursue their degree in basic sciences besides direct admission to prestigious institutes like Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and others, can attend study camps organised by various scientific institutes, and will get ID cards which give them access to various prestigious laboratories, scientific and research institutes throughout the country.
Severine Rosario, programme co-ordinator, CFAL, told reporters said this achievement shows that children in Mangaluru have the caliber required for excelling in national-level examination. “What they lack is strong conceptual understanding and proper guidance. CFAL Mangaluru has been working to provide the right information and support. As a result, students have consistently been outperforming their peers in Bengaluru and excelling in national-level examinations.”
She said the objective of KVPY exam is to identify students with talent and aptitude with research; help them realise their academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in basic sciences and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country. These exams require analytical skills and logical thinking.
