BENGALURU:  Sandalwood star Amulya along her husband Jagadish and father-in-law Ramachandra, joined JD(S) in the presence of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on Monday.

Former BJP MLA from Chickpet Hemachandra Sagar, Congress ticket aspirant from CV Raman Nagar constituency P Ramesh, and late IAS officer D K Ravi's father-in-law Hamumantharayappa, also joined the party on the occasion.

Amulya's father-in-law G H Ramachandra, a former BJP corporator is expected to be JD(S) candidate from Rajarajeshwari Nagar to take on Congress candidate Muniratna. Prajwal Revanna, grandson of H D Deve Gowda was keen to contest from Rajarajeshwari Nagar. However, he has backed out after Gowda asked him to refrain from contesting in the Assembly election. Gowda wants Prajwal to make electoral debut in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Hassan constituency, which is presently being represented by Gowda himself.

Speaking on the occasion, Amulya said, "I am not well versed in politics. I will extend all support to him. I will campaign in Rajarajeshwari Nagar for my father-in-law for now. I have not thought about campaigning all over the state."

Welcoming the new entrants to the party, Deve Gowda said, "It's a very happy day for me as many prominent leaders have joined JD(S). The party is gaining in strength, many more leaders are set to join the party soon. The party will come to power this time, there is no doubt about it."

Gowda expressed the confidence of JD(S) winning about 12 to 15 seats in Bengaluru city. Amulya would be drafted as a star campaigner for the party, he said.

The party is contemplating to field P Ramesh as JD(S) candidate in CV Raman Nagar and Hemachandra Sagar in Chickpet.
