BENGALURU: In a big relief to several employees of University of Mysore, the Karnataka High Court on Friday set aside the state government's order of cancelling the appointment of more than 100 teaching staff, including assistant professors, appointed during 2006-07, when J Shashidhar Prasad was vice chancellor. The state government had annulled appointments after a former High Court judge Justice H Rangavittalachar’s report pointed out several irregularities in the process.

However, now the court gave liberty to the state government to issue individual notices to the each of those employees whose appointments were annulled and seek explanation if it wanted to pass any fresh order on validity of the appointments made by the ex-VC. Justice A S Bopanna passed the order to that effect while disposing of the petitions filed by several teaching staff.

The teaching staff whose appointments were annulled will continue in their posts, as the High Court stayed the notification of cancelling the appointments on June 18, 2014. The petitioners have contended that the state government violated the principle of natural justice by not giving an opportunity to hear them before annulling their appointments. In fact, the state government had sought the only explanation from the varsity on the violation of norms.

Removal  stayed
The Karnataka High Court stayed the removal of  Chennanna C as Director of Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS). Hearing the petition filed by Chennanna, the court stayed the order dated June 28, 2018 by the Department of Health and Family Welfare. After the removal from the post of Director during pending inquiry, Chennanna was posted as professor of BIMS. For this, Chennanna contended that he cannot be posted as professor.
