Punjab woman lands in Sagar, efforts on to trace family

A woman from Punjab has been languishing in the State Home for Women in the city for the last 19 months. 

SHIVAMOGGA:  A woman from Punjab has been languishing in the State Home for Women in the city for the last 19 months. She seems to have lost her memory but is gradually recalling details of her family and hometown, and officials are hoping to trace her family from these. Balvinder Kaur was found on the streets of Sagar Town, Shivamogga district, on December 16, 2016. She was rescued by the president of Jana Jeevana Jagruti Vedike of Sagar and presented before the Principal Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate (First Class), Sagar, before being lodged at the rehabilitation centre. 

Balvinder says that her husband’s name is Sukhvinder Singh and that he runs a grocery shop (kirana shop). She has given her son’s name as Manjit Singh and daughter’s, as Jonpreet Kaur. Beyond this, the middle-aged woman has little to share. 

With the help of a local businessman Dharmendra Singh, TNIE made effort to collect more information from her.  She said that she has studied till Class 8 at Sanaur in Punjab and that she hails from Patiala. She also said she has a brother Gurmej Singh who lives in Sanaur. When asked for a landmark for her address and she replied that one of her neighbours is a certain Bittoo.
