MYSURU: Will rains help the state government? Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said “Yes”. “The nature is in favour of the coalition government as incessant rains have filled up almost all the reservoirs in the state including four in the Cauvery basin, by the grace of Goddess Chamundeshwari”, he said on Friday. He also felt that the good rains would improve the relations between Cauvery riparian states Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Referring to the inflow of more than 50,000 cusecs into KRS dam alone, he said the outflows from KRS and Kabini reservoirs will help Karnataka meet its obligation of releasing 131 tmcft of water to Tamil Nadu before July 31, well before the September deadline set by the Cauvery Tribunal. He said there will be no political tensions between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu as “enough water” has been released to the lower riparian state. The chief minister appealed to farmers not to take the extreme step of committing suicide.
