Bountiful rains continue to lash Kodagu
MADIKERI: The monsoon misery continues in Kodagu with villages cut off from electricity and over 30 houses doomed across the district, following continuous downpour.
The road on Kottageri – Balele stretch has collapsed, disconnecting several villages from the rest of the district. The Tahashildar has cautioned villagers from commuting on this road. The Lakshmana Theertha River is flowing in gusto post bountiful rain, prompting flood alert caution to the neighbouring villages of Harihara and T Shettigeri, where roads have been completely flooded by the river.
Over 15 houses have been destroyed across Somwarpet taluk, causing an estimated loss of Rs 1.92 lakh. The taluk has witnessed landslides in many areas destroying roads and property. The taluk Tahashildar R Govindraj visited the flood-stricken area and invigilated the loss caused by rains.
The Somwarpet Town Panchayat chief officer, Hemkumar said, “We have set up rescue teams across Somwarpet to provide immediate help to those affected by flood.”
Karadigodu of Siddapura is flooded post heavy rain. Madikeri constituency MLA Appachu Ranjan was on Tuesday seen visiting monsoon affected areas of Siddapura. The MLA has ordered Village Panchayat officers not to be move out of the village until monsoon ends and has ordered them to take special care about the flood stricken areas under their jurisdiction.
Bus facility to Napoklu and Bhagamandala has been affected due to flooded roads. While the rains have subsided in Madikeri, they continue to lash Virajpet and Somwarpet taluks of the district.
Overall, the district is receiving bountiful rainfall this year as opposed to scanty rainfall last year. It has recorded 85.52 mm rainfall for the past 24 hours. Last year, on the same day, the district had recorded just 36.98 mm rainfall.
