BENGALURU:Amol Kale alias Bhaisaab, who allegedly masterminded the Gauri Lankesh murder, is said to be a hardcore believer in Hindutva and reportedly chose religious meetings to recruit those who believed in ‘taking up arms’ to save Hindu religion.

SIT sources said Kale, who owes allegiance to several pro-Hindu outfits, was allegedly assigned the task of killing Gauri Lankesh. Following the instructions, he discussed the plan with Amit Degwekar and started head-hunting for like-minded people, who can do the job for him.

“He attended several religious meetings organised by pro-Hindu organisations. There he watched those who responded intensely to the speeches in which there were mentions about building a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ or taking up arms to save Hindu religion. He identified such people, introduced himself to them, praised their love for the religion and asked for their background. After interacting with them a few times, he gauged if they were committed to go to any extent for the sake of religion. Only after he was convinced about their commitment, he discussed his plans with them,” an officer said.

“Kale met the accused in the case only through such religious meetings. He did not use mobile phones to contact his team members and used only public telephone booths to get in touch with them. He went to the places, where the accused persons lived, but never told them where he lived or worked. In such meetings, he used to instigate them that he wanted their help to save the religion. Without telling them that they have to work for a plan to commit murder, he used them for finance, logistics and other kinds of support. Only if it was inevitable to tell a person that their help was needed to murder a person, he would inform them. Otherwise, he never discussed the murder plan with them,” the officer added.
