BENGALURU: Two eye-witnesses, including a journalism student and a daily wager, had seen Parashuram Waghamre on September 5 near Gauri Lankesh's house where she was shot dead that evening, sources in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) said.
"A daily wager, who was sleeping in an under-construction site adjacent to Gauri’s house had come out to attend nature's call and noticed Gauri’s shooter very closely during his escape. Meanwhile, a journalism student from Raichur who was staying in a PG accommodation also saw the shooter a few hours before the murder."
During the investigation, police had gathered information about the suspects from many locals, including these two. Initially, SIT officials had made artistic sketches of the shooter and his aide following descriptions shared by the eye-witnesses to the incident.
"After the Waghmare's arrest, the duo were called again for identity parade, and the arrested were shown to them one by one. Both identified Waghmare, who is said to have fired at Gauri Lankesh," an officer from SIT said.
"Out of three sketches, one person's sketch matched up to 80 per cent with characteristics of Waghmare, who will soon be taken to Gauri’s house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar to reconstruct the scene of crime. We make him to wear a helmet and a jacket. The reconstruction footage will be sent to the FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) for comparison with earlier CCTV camera footage which was recovered earlier.
Meanwhile, efforts are on to nab Nihal alias Dada, one of the prime accused involved in the crime," the officer added.
