Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy seeks hike in disaster management fund

Kumaraswamy has asked the Centre to significantly enhance allocation for the State Disaster Response Fund stating that state was prone to natural disasters.

BENGALURU: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has asked the Centre to significantly enhance allocation for the State Disaster Response Fund stating that Karnataka was prone to natural disasters and that the quantum of funds allocated was not sufficient.

Kumaraswamy has written to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh stating that  `1,527 crore had been allocated between 2015-16 and 2019-2020 for Karnataka, whereas states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat have got  `8,195 crore,  `6,094 crore and `3,394 crore respectively.

“The state has requested for enhancement of SDRF allocation to `3,050.72 crore. A  memorandum has been submitted requesting for an additional allocation of `12,272.21 crore as central assistance for various drought proofing measures,” he said.
