Release water from Krishnaraja Sagar : CM H D Kumaraswamy to officials

Without waiting for Cauvery Monitoring Board’s directions, the state government has decided to release water from Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) for irrigation.

MYSURU: Without waiting for Cauvery Monitoring Board’s directions, the state government has decided to release water from Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) for irrigation.Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, after visiting Anjayenyaswamy temple in Ramanagar, directed officials to release water without waiting for Cauvery Monitoring Board directions. KRS Executive Engineer Basavaraje Gowda said 2,900 cusecs of water would be released into Vishweshwaraiah canal from Thursday evening.

The storage level in KRS reached 104 feet as against the maximum level of 124.8 feet. Meanwhile, incessant rains in Wayanad, Kerala, increased the inflow into Kabini reservoir to 17,500 cusecs, taking the storage level to 2262.5 ft. Irrigation officials, keen on the safety of the dam, discharged 25,000 cusecs of water into the river.
