BENGALURU: Karnataka on Saturday hit out at the Centre for notifying Cauvery Water Management Board without consulting the state.

"Karnataka is not against formation of the Board, but we are opposing certain provisions in the scheme and the same was discussed with the Prime Minister and Water Resources Minister. Now, we feel our rights have been snatched and we will take it up with the Centre again," Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said here.

The CM had earlier termed some provisions, like board inspecting reservoirs in the state and deciding on the quantum of water to be released, and also the board deciding crop pattern in the Cauvery basin in Karnataka as unscientific.

During his recent meeting with the PM in the national capital, the CM had urged the Centre to relook into those provisions before issuing the notification. "We have made it clear that we are not against Centre following the SC directions. Our state has never violated law though people faced several problems, but that should not be treated as our weakness," the CM said.

Kumaraswamy said he would again meet the Union Water Resources minister and also write to the Centre on the issue.

Meanwhile, he has decided to soon convene a meeting of legal experts to explore legal options before the state. Karnataka Water Resources Minister DK Shivakumar accused the Centre of taking unilateraldecision by issuing the notification.
