CHIKKAMAGALURU : Two unidentified motorbike-borne men, wearing helmets, stabbed BJP’s city general secretary Mohammad Anwar to death on Friday night. The victim was about to get into his car after returning from a friend’s house near Gowri Kaluve. The man on the pillion, first stabbed Anwar with a dagger on his chest and abdomen. The rider also joined him and stabbed the victim several times, damaging his liver, heart and kidney.

Anwar (40) was an active BJP worker, working as its minority cell president. The incident took place behind a shop near Gowri Kaluve. Additional SP Gita visited the spot and Basavanahalli police had registered an FIR against five suspects including Yusuf Haji and Aseef, based on the complaint lodged by the vicitm’s brother Kabir.

Hundreds of BJP leaders and workers gathered at Malle Gowda General Hospital on Saturday morning where the postmortem was conducted. After the autopsy, Anwar’s body was handed over to the relatives. According to reports, Anwar was stabbed 13 times.

MLA C T Ravi, former CMC president H D Thammaiah, spokesperson Varasiddi Venugopal and ZP member B G Somashekar visited the hospital. The MLA demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
Hundreds of BJP workers led by C T Ravi and Lok Sabha member Shobha Karandlaje staged a silent protest at Azad Park to protest against the brutal murder. Thereafter, the processionists marched towards the DC’s office and submitted a memorandum to DC M K Srirangaiah.

2 attacks in 8 years
Eight years ago, Anwar had been attacked with lethal weapons and he survived the assault. A land dispute was said to have been the motive for the attack. The assailants are still in jail. According to sources, his death may be perceived from three different angles --  differences with a Shivamogga realtor over real estate, illicit relationship or personal enmity. However, Superintendent of Police K Annamalai declined to draw any conclusion and said the probe is still on to identify the culprits.

Don’t repeat Siddu’s mistakes: Shobha
Chikkamagaluru: Lok Sabha member Shobha Karandlaje has lashed out at the state government for the “breakdown of law and order”. Addressing reporters at the BJP office here on Saturday, “When Siddaramaiah was the chief minister, our party workers were killed in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Now criminals are not afraid of committing crime. The current government seems to be in a slumber...My only appeal to H D Kumaraswamy is that he should not repeat the mistakes committed by Siddaramaiah”.
