BENGALURU: Managements of Deemed-to-be universities in the state offering professional courses have decided to move court, if the fee regulatory committee insists or tries to regulate fee charged by them.Taking part in the meeting chaired by Justice D V Shylendra Kumar, chairperson for fee regulatory committee on Saturday, the representatives of Deemed to be universities expressed their wish to approach court.

Speaking to The New Indian Express, one of the management representatives of a Deemed to be medical university said, “We, deemed to be universities, directly come under University Grants Commission. How can the committee constituted by state government interfere and insist us?”“We have expressed the same during the meeting and told the committee chairperson not to involve in regulating fee for deemed to be  universities as the fee structure is already regulated by UGC. Even after this, if they tries to regulate, we will challenge in the court of law,” said Dr S Kumar, secretary of Consortium of Deemed Universities in Karnataka.

Meanwhile, the representatives also mentioned that they have fee regulatory committees at university level and there is nothing that the state government can do with it. However, after the proceedings, Justice Shylendra Kumar said, “The committee will not involve in their business until they cross our fixation limits. We will consider their requests and come to a conclusion shortly.”
